Chichewa, also called Nyanja, is a Bantu language spoken by about 12 million people across Malawi, Zambia, Mozambique and Zimbabwe. It is the national language of Malawi, used alongside English in government, schooling, newspapers and radio, and it is the language most Malawians share regardless of which language they speak at home.
