Paste your Punjabi text

Drop your script into the editor. Notevibes handles ਪੰਜਾਬੀ script natively — numbers, dates, and abbreviations are read the Punjabi way.

2

Pick a voice & direct it

Choose from 8+ Punjabi voices, then shape the delivery — a persona line keeps the voice in character, inline [emotion] tags shift the read at the exact word.

3

Generate and download

Preview the result, tweak a tag or two, then export MP3 or WAV with full commercial rights.

Punjabi text to speech that respects tone and Gurmukhi script

Punjabi is spoken by more than 125 million people, which makes it the tenth-largest language in the world — and one of the very few Indo-Aryan languages that is genuinely tonal. In India it is written in the flowing Gurmukhi script, the alphabet of the Sikh scriptures; across the border in Pakistan the same language is written in a Perso-Arabic hand. Notevibes generates Punjabi from Gurmukhi (pa-IN), the standard for Indian Punjab and for most of the global diaspora.

Tone is what makes Punjabi text to speech genuinely difficult. Historic voiced-aspirate consonants collapsed centuries ago and left behind three pitch contours — high-falling, low-rising, and level — so words that look nearly identical on the page can mean “horse”, “whip”, or something else entirely depending on the pitch a speaker uses. A voice that flattens all of that sounds not merely accented but wrong to a native ear. Notevibes’ neural voices carry the contour, so a word and the phrase around it land the way a Majhi speaker expects.

Reading Gurmukhi the way it’s written

Gurmukhi is an abugida: every consonant carries a built-in vowel unless a mark cancels or changes it, and clusters stack into conjunct forms rather than sitting side by side. Nasalisation is signalled by a small bindi or tippi that can change a word entirely, and the same letter shifts value depending on the vowels around it. A Punjabi engine has to resolve all of that before it ever settles on a pitch. Notevibes reads native Gurmukhi input directly, so you paste the script as it stands instead of transliterating into Latin and hoping the vowels survive.

Majhi as the standard, Doabi for the diaspora

The accent set covers Standard Punjabi — the Majhi dialect of the Lahore–Amritsar belt that broadcasters and educators treat as the prestige form — alongside Doabi, the variety of the Doaba region between the Beas and Sutlej that a large share of the overseas community grew up speaking. For content aimed at Punjab itself, Majhi is the natural default; for gurdwara media, community radio, or family-facing material in Britain and Canada, a Doabi read simply feels closer to home.

Who reaches for Punjabi voices

Demand comes from three directions: a diaspora of tens of millions who consume Punjabi content online far from Punjab, an entertainment and music industry that turns out lyric videos and narration at volume, and e-learning and government programmes serving South Asia’s digital markets. For each of them the appeal is the same — direct the delivery with inline [emotion] tags and a persona line, then export MP3 or WAV under a commercial licence in minutes rather than booking studio time.
