Change the background color of a PowerPoint
Drop your .pptx, pick a colour or a two-colour gradient, choose the slides. One click and every one of them has the new background. Free.
Three steps, done
Upload the deck
Drop a .pptx. Every slide is listed with its title, and slides that already have their own background are marked.
Pick the background
A solid colour from the picker, a hex code or a preset swatch, or a two-colour gradient in one of three directions.
Apply and download
Untick any slide you want to leave alone, press Apply and the new .pptx downloads. Text, images and animations stay as they were.
Your deck, with a voice
Narrated PowerPoint

Tell Noty you want videoFrom a patchwork deck to one look
Before
Slides from three templates
White here, a stock photo there, a navy title slide borrowed from another deck. Fixing it means Format Background on every slide.
After
One background, on every slide you chose
Solid or gradient, written onto each selected slide so it wins over whatever the layout and master say.
Now give the slides a voice
A consistent background makes a deck look finished. Narration makes it present itself. Tell Noty in the Studio chat and every slide gets a voiceover, timed to move on by itself.
Where a slide’s background comes from
A PowerPoint slide takes its background from the first place that sets one: the slide itself, then its layout, then the slide master. This tool writes the background on the slide, the level that wins.
Slide beats layout and master
A background set on the slide overrides the layout and the master, so the colour shows even on slides whose theme uses a picture or a pattern.
Shapes on the layout still show
Logos, bars and pictures placed on the layout or master sit above the background. To hide them on a slide, tick “Hide background graphics” in PowerPoint’s Format Background pane.
Solid or gradient
A gradient here runs between two colours, left to right, top to bottom or corner to corner. It’s a normal PowerPoint gradient, so you can add stops or change the angle in Format Background.
Back to the theme
“Use the theme” removes the slide’s own background, so it shows whatever its layout and master define again. Useful for undoing one-off backgrounds pasted in from other decks.
Text colour stays the same
Only the background changes. Dark text on a new dark background will be hard to read, so pick a colour that contrasts with the text you have, or change the text colour in PowerPoint.
Stored the way PowerPoint stores it
The background is written in the same form PowerPoint’s Format Background pane writes, so you can change it again there. Presenting from Google Slides or Keynote? Open the file there once to check, especially gradients.
Changing the background, three ways
PowerPoint and Google Slides both change backgrounds well once the deck is open in them. This tool does it without either: drop the .pptx, tick the slides, download.

Choosing a background colour that works
The background is the largest area of colour on every slide, so it sets the tone before anyone reads a word. Most decks do best with either a near-white or a deep, dark colour, and text in strong contrast to it.
Light backgrounds suit rooms with the lights on and decks that will be printed or read on a laptop. Dark backgrounds suit dim rooms and screens, and make photos and charts stand out, but need light text and more care with thin lines.
A gradient adds depth without a picture. Keep the two colours close in lightness, such as a navy fading into a deeper navy, so text stays readable across the whole slide.
Brand colours work best in small doses. A full orange background on every slide is tiring; orange on the title and section slides, with a neutral background elsewhere, reads as intentional.
A deck that looks finished should sound finished
Noty writes the narration from your slides, voices every one of them in a natural voice or yours, and hands back a PowerPoint that plays itself.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I change the background of only some slides?
Yes. Every slide is listed with a checkbox and all are ticked at first. Untick the ones you want to keep as they are, then press Apply.
Will it override the template’s background?
Yes. The colour is written on each selected slide, which takes priority over the background of the layout and slide master. Pictures and shapes placed on the layout still show on top; hide them with “Hide background graphics” in PowerPoint if needed.
Can I use a gradient?
Yes. Choose Gradient, pick two colours and a direction: left to right, top to bottom or diagonal. You can fine-tune it later in PowerPoint’s Format Background pane.
How do I undo a background change?
Choose “Use the theme” and apply it to the same slides. It removes the slide-level background so the slides show their layout and master background again. Your original file is never changed either; the tool downloads a new copy.
Does it change text or images?
No. Only the background of the selected slides changes. Text, pictures, charts, animations, transitions and speaker notes stay exactly as they were.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. The deck is read and rewritten in your browser, so it never leaves your computer.
Can Notevibes narrate the deck too?
Yes. Tell Noty in the Notevibes Studio and it writes narration for every slide from the slide text or speaker notes, voices it in a natural AI voice or your own cloned voice, and hands back a narrated .pptx that auto-advances, plus the MP3.
