Why Notevibes AVI to MP3
Built for legacy AVI archives that need to become portable audio.
AVI Support
Built for the classic AVI (Audio Video Interleave) container — the format behind old Windows video archives, early camcorders, and decades of DVD rips.
Audio Track Extraction
We read only the audio track from the AVI container and discard the video entirely. The output is a clean audio-only MP3.
Privacy First
Your AVI file is decoded and re-encoded locally in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, stored, or analyzed on any server.
192 kbps Output
Every MP3 is encoded at a clean 192 kbps — a safe balance between file size and sound quality that plays cleanly on every device.
Instant Download
Zero server traffic. The whole extraction runs in-browser, so the MP3 downloads the moment encoding finishes.
Browser-Based
Runs entirely inside modern browsers using the Web Audio API. No installer, no desktop app, no sign-up, no account.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert AVI to MP3 for free?
Drop your .avi file onto the converter above, then click Convert to MP3. We pull the audio track from the AVI container and encode it at 192 kbps. The MP3 downloads automatically — no sign-up, no upload, no watermark, everything happens in your browser.
Why does my AVI file fail to decode?
Important caveat: AVI is just a container — it can hold many different video and audio codecs (DivX, XviD, MPEG-4, MP3, AC3, PCM, and more). Modern browsers only know how to decode a small subset of these natively. If your AVI was encoded with DivX, XviD, or another legacy codec, your browser will not be able to open it, and our converter will show an error. This is a limitation of browser audio decoding, not the tool itself. If decode fails, try Chrome (it supports the widest range of codecs) or try a different AVI file.
What should I do if the conversion fails?
First, open the AVI in VLC Media Player and check Tools → Codec Information to see which codec it uses. If it is DivX, XviD, or another legacy codec, your browser cannot decode it. The easiest fix: use VLC itself (Media → Convert/Save) or HandBrake to remux the AVI into a modern MP4 or MKV, then drop that file into any Notevibes converter. Alternatively, simply try opening the original AVI in Chrome — it generally supports more codecs than Firefox or Safari.
Is the AVI to MP3 converter free?
Yes. Completely free. No sign-up, no watermark, no ads, and no limit on how many AVI files you can convert. Max file size is 200 MB per file.
Is my AVI file uploaded to a server?
No. The converter runs entirely in your browser using the Web Audio API. Your AVI file never leaves your device — nothing is uploaded, stored, or analyzed anywhere.
What bitrate does the MP3 use?
Every MP3 is encoded at a clean 192 kbps — a good balance between file size and audio quality. 192 kbps sounds great on phones, headphones, and car stereos, and it works on every MP3 player ever made.
What happens to the video track?
We only read the audio track and discard the video. Your AVI file never plays back visually — we just pull out the audio stream and re-encode it as MP3. The output is audio-only.
Can I use this to rip audio from YouTube?
Honest answer: no. This tool only works on AVI files you already have on your device. We do not download from YouTube or any other site — bring your own AVI and we will extract the audio for you.
