What is a parametric EQ?
A parametric equalizer lets you shape the tone of audio across the frequency spectrum. Each band targets a specific frequency and lets you boost or cut it by a configurable amount. Unlike a graphic EQ with fixed bands, a parametric EQ lets you tune frequency, gain, and Q (bandwidth) per band.
How are the 5 bands set up?
Band 1 is a low shelf at 80 Hz (cuts/boosts everything below). Bands 2–4 are peaking filters at 250 Hz, 1 kHz, and 4 kHz (narrow band cuts/boosts). Band 5 is a high shelf at 10 kHz (cuts/boosts everything above). This layout covers the audible range with one band per octave-ish region.
What does Q mean?
Q (or Q factor) controls the bandwidth of a peaking filter. High Q = narrow surgical cut/boost (good for removing specific resonances). Low Q = wide musical cut/boost (good for general tone shaping). Default Q is 1.0 — moderate width.
How do the presets help?
Presets are starting points. Voice Clarity cuts mud at 250 Hz and boosts presence at 3 kHz — great for podcasts. Warm boosts low-mids at 200 Hz. Bright adds high-shelf air. Telephone band-passes 300–3400 Hz for a phone-call effect. Tweak from there.
Why does the response curve look different than my settings?
The curve shows the combined response of all 5 bands multiplied together, not each band independently. If you boost a peaking band right next to a shelf, the curve adds up. That is the actual sound your audio will get.
What's the difference between this and bass/treble boost?
The single-shelf bass booster and treble booster are one-shelf one-click tools — fast for quick fixes. The parametric EQ has 5 bands with full control over frequency, gain, and Q. Use boosts for speed, parametric for precision.
Is the parametric EQ free?
Yes. Completely free with no sign-up, no watermark, and no limits. Max file size is 200 MB.
Is my audio file uploaded to a server?
No. The EQ runs entirely in your browser. Your file never leaves your device.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. It runs on Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge on both desktop and mobile.
